How to choose mandala art for your home

A mandala is a quiet centrepiece. It rewards a wall you pass every day, so the choice is less about matching a sofa and more about how you want a room to feel.

Start with the wall, not the piece

Measure the empty space and aim for art that fills roughly two-thirds of it. A 12-inch mandala floats and disappears on a large feature wall; a 24-inch piece can overwhelm a narrow hallway. When in doubt, size up slightly — art almost always reads smaller on the wall than in your hand.

Let your light lead the palette

Warm evening light makes gold and ruby glow; cool north light flatters plum, navy, and magenta. Notice when you spend the most time in the room, and choose the ground colour that comes alive then.

Colours you already live with

The easiest way to make a commissioned piece feel yours is to pull one or two colours from the room — a cushion, a rug, the spine of a favourite book — and ask for those to appear in the finer linework. It ties the mandala to the space without matching everything exactly.

Placement

Hang the centre of the mandala at eye level (around 57–60 inches from the floor). Above a console or bed, keep a hand’s width of breathing room between the furniture and the frame.

When you’re ready, tell me the wall and the colours you live with, and I’ll design a mandala that belongs there.
